Well I mean of course
my past informs my present.
But it sure as hell doesn't
have to
define my future.
Not because of platitudes and
wishful thinking and self-serving,
melodramatic statements
announced with righteous dignity to an
empty living room
(how many times do we talk about getting it together and issue a press release about it but not really do anything about it? For me more times than I like to think about -- although each failure-to-launch was its own eventual lesson learned).
But
AA's tools:
admit what I can't do on my own, ask for help, take direction, second-guess my first thought, pause when agitated, write... pray... meditate...
are ultimately (when I use them) about clearing the path
(which is an action in and of itself)
and then actually moving forward,
and that's how I heal my past
and change my future.
And when I do that, today seems to
just
take
care
of
itself.
