Quite the series of challenges and it breaks my heart to imagine trying to get sober over there. Wow. The photos accompanying the article were...well, the drunk paratroopers were adorable (but what does that say about me?), and the links to more stories - especially the one to the Washington Post, ('so-called coding') aren't easy to believe as what is actually practiced to treat my fellow alkys in the 20teensies.. You really can't make this stuff up.
I squirm when someone says at a meeting that "no one ever had to hold them down and pour alcohol down their throat." After the first drink was in my system, I often didn't drink the subsequent drinks by choice; the first drink was calling the shots, heh, and I was taking dictation. The Globe gave an historical account of alcohol actually being poured down peoples' throats through funnels! So, see, it has happened!
