Really good thoughts. I've seen that kind of reaction in people in both AA and Al-Anon. Not my sponsor but people who seem to get pleasure out of dumping on others or making them feel small. Spiritual sickness and fear.

Some folks can't handle the implied responsibility, the real committment, but don't know how to say "No, I'm sorry, I can't sponsor you." So they agree, then spend most of their time making sure you are kept on the other side of that line, please.
When we are new,and suppose that anyone with more time is "healthier" than we are, we are much more likely to get caught up in these kinds of frustrating, confusing, and painful relationships.
A wise person once said to me, "If every single time we come away from an encounter with another person, we feel bad, something is wrong!"
I'd honestly never considered that before, I'd just assumed it must be my fault, in some way I couldn't grasp.
