Thank you so much for reminding me of one of my favourite, most inspiring poems at a time that I am finding particularly challenging. I need to be reminded of my blessings right now. I know this poem by heart - I have loved it since I first found it in my early twenties, long before I knew I was an alcoholic - and it is an absolutely perfect poem for Recovery.

It's worth noting this is not the whole poem. It continues:

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun’s birthday; this is the birth
day of life and of love and wings: and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any – lifted from the no
of all nothing – human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)
