There are few things more uncomfortable,

more irritating,

more distracting,

more enraging,

than an itch you cannot scratch.

 

Alcoholism

is like an itch you can't scratch;

in your brain.

 

Thank God that,

for me, an AA meeting

is like a spiritual

back scratcher.

Ouch.

For some,

(and most definitely for me sometimes),

an ungentle

terrible

truth.

yeah, but it's not so easy to switch

 

And for many alcoholics, when we're lonely, our best thinking is to just keep buildin' those walls higher.

For me it took the relentless example of loving acceptance in AA meetings to help me start pulling those walls down -- and if not immediately begin to build a bridge, then at least stand there on the shore and wave.
